Big changes have happened, and are happeing! In my last post, I shared the love and joy that Flying Monkey Arts has passed down to us. We have now taken that knowledge and moved to the country side to become homesteaders and continue the growth of our business. Although we have moved out of Flying Monkey, we will always be apart of the community and carry forth the values we gained.
Self sustainability has been one of Tim and I's dreams since we knew it was an option, and here we are! Though we're not self sustained (yet), nor do I believe we will completely reach the 'off-the-grid' status, we are already reaping the benefits of living outside of the city and on an actual piece of land where we can spread out and make things happen. And a plus side, we are sharing the property (and the work load) with a good friend keeping around the feel of community that we grew so used to at the Monkey.
We are both new to this way of living, in a way, but it feels so right. To be able to dig up dirt and put something green in it knowing that we will be able to support our desire for good grown farm to table food. I know what my reasons were for not keeping a garden in the city, or for not composting or doing many of the things I hope to accomplish being on this new journey, but the more research I do the more I realize how easy it could have been to do this all along! However, the open country air does make a difference in drive and daily inspiration. Either way, I say this to encourage city dwellers to take on the green dream where you are.
Although we've only been out here for a month, I consider us well on our way to homesteading. We have a garden, chickens, more dogs and cats than humans, multi housing, and the ambition to grow and educate ourselves.
Are you homesteading or on your way to it? Are you a city dwelling-green growing lover? Share your venture with me! Leave a comment with your story.
Til' next time, shine on.
